About NorthKind Pet Care
Â
Hello, I’m Katie! — the heart behind NorthKind Pet Care.

Animals have always been a meaningful part of my life, and creating a service centered around compassionate, reliable care has been a long-time dream of mine since college. NorthKind Pet Care was built on the belief that every pet deserves to feel safe, loved, and understood — especially when their owners are away.
Â
I understand how important it is to trust someone with your pet, and I take that responsibility seriously. My goal is to care for every animal as if they were my own while creating a calm, comfortable experience for both pets and their owners.
Â
A Lifelong Love for Animals

I’ve grown up around animals my entire life and have experience caring for birds, cats, dogs, and freshwater fish. My love for animals started early — my very first cat, Goldie, was a stray that I found while houseboating with my mom on the St. Croix River in Wisconsin. I begged her to let him come home with us, and thankfully, she said yes!

Over the years, I’ve cared for the pets of friends and family and have always genuinely enjoyed it. Also, during the Winter of 2023, I started a weekly Sunday puppy Meetup group in St. Paul to help create connection and community for both dogs and their owners. This was a fun way to hangout and socialize with other pet parents and help socialize and exercise young dogs. The puppy group is currently paused, but will be started up again soon.

Today, I’m a proud co-pet parent to three fur babies:

-
Issa, the sweetest White Swiss Shepherd you'll ever meet!Â
-
Cheetoh and Taki, sibling pairs that were adopted from Pet Haven -Â two peas in a pod....well, most of the time! :)

Experience & Volunteer Work

While this is the first official year in business, my experience with animal care goes back many years.

In addition to caring for my own pets, and those of friends and family, I’ve also volunteered with several local Minnesota non-profits, including:

-
Pet Haven of Minnesota as a Foster FriendÂ
-
Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota in the Squirrel Mammal Nursery

These experiences have helped me build confidence and skills in:

-
Dog walking
-
Pet sitting
-
Administering medication
-
Working with anxious or shy animals
-
Understanding animal behavior and comfort needs

I also hold a cat and dog first aid certificate from the American Red Cross.Â

Professional Background

Before starting NorthKind Pet Care, I spent years working in the corporate world and small business's in supply chain; purchasing, inventory management, and project management across several industries.

My professional background includes working in:

-
Architectural art glass for commercial and residential projects nationwideÂ
-
Saltwater aquatics - E-comm pet retailer specializing in saltwater aquarium equipment
-
Medical supplies and hospital inventory management - Level III trauma hospital and university-level academic medical center

My experience in supply chain helped me develop strong organizational skills, communication, reliability, and attention to detail — all qualities I now bring into my pet care business every day!

Outside of Pet Care

When I’m not caring for pets, you can usually find me spending time outdoors, relaxing at home, or with friends and family. I love staying active and enjoying everything Minnesota has to offer, including: biking, hiking, volleyball, pickleball, and spending time on the water.
I also enjoy listening to podcasts and audiobooks, volunteering in local kitchens and community gardens, and winding down to my favorite TV shows.Â
